ADD with Blogging

I admit--I have a problem! I have a mild case of ADD with blogging. I can't seem to find any background that I am love it. Or I look at all of your blogs, and think they look sooooooo cute. So I start looking around and find a new template to experiment with. I know that it probably won't last, and I'll just change it again, but for now (today) this is what it is. I just like to keep you guessing, "What will the Cahoon's blog look like today when I check it?" ENJOY!!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Emma and I have been hard at work on a project for her teacher(which I freely admit that I copied from another blog...share the wealth right?)

Garden Time

On Saturday we decided that it was finally warm enough to plant a garden for the year (even though I have jeans and a sweatshirt on today). So we gave Emma the camera and this is what she came up with:

Then I got behind the lens and snapped a few more:

After the work was done (okay, Daddy was still working, but the kids kind of lost interest) we rode around on the quads for awhile. Then the kids wanted to go out into the back field and pick flowers:

And just in case you were wondering...No, we did not bring one of the Village People with us that day. Grant picked out his own outfit--rainboots, camo shorts, red bandana, tee shirt (which was off most of the day), and red cowboy hat!!

AT 9:30 IN THE MORNING!!!

This morning Grant and I went on our usual walk with our next door neighbor Julie. Everyday on our walk we go right past our neighborhood park and Grant always wants to stop and play. Today, in a moment of weakness I gave in and said YES!! So we part ways with Julie and Grant and I head over to the park for a few pushes on the swing. There are 3 other little kids there with their Grandpa. And Grant being the social butterfly that he is heads over to play with the kids--fine! Then another kid shows up at the park with his mom. We did the cordial mom "Hi" and then went on our merry way to push our kids on the swing, play on the teeter totter etc. (You park moms know what I'm talking about.)Then Grant ends up playing with her little boy too, so we are left sitting on opposite benches in an awkward moment of silence. I pretend to check my email, try and find someone who will chat with me at 9:30 in the morning-with no luck, so I'm left in this uncomfortable silence with this stranger (once again, you park moms know what I'm talking about). When all of a sudden this mom starts talking my ear off. She's talking, and talking, and talking--and I'm listening...closely. Because I'm realizing that either this woman is REALLY hard up for conversation.....OR SHE'S DRUNK!!! Come to find out---SHE'S DRUNK!! I know this because in the course of HER conversation she makes her way over to MY bench!! I jumped at the opportunity when Grant said he was cold, and we bolted out of there!! I could only leave in good conscience knowing that the kid had walked to the park with his mom and that they were probably going to go back home. I understand the sacrifice and trials of stay-at-home mom's--BUT AT 9:30 IN THE MORNING??!!!

Oh the drama.....

Grant: Mom, this is not my best day ever.
Me: Oh really, why is this not your best day ever?
Grant: Because my heart is broken!
Me: Why is your heart broken?
Grant: Because I ate too much food and now my heart is broken FOREVER....and it's not the best day either.
TEARS START TO FALL

Is this his way of telling me that he had heartburn?? I'm not so sure. But a little cuddle time with mommy seemed to cure whatever was making it not the best day ever!!

PS--We just got back from running a few errands, and while we were out we got some lunch. And the first thing that happened when we sat down--Grant spilled a completely full soda all over himself. It was so sad to see his already pouty face, with more tears falling. The first thing I thought was--"This really isn't the best day ever for him." Poor guy!

Trip To Reno

(View from Randy's front door--Mt. Rose)

Last weekend we were able to take off for an early Easter weekend getaway. My brother Randy lives in Reno, and we went to go stay and play at his house. When we first got there we unpacked our stuff and headed up the hill for a quick quad ride before dinner (the trail literally starts down the street from his house). Emma rode with Jamie, Grant rode with Randy, and I went solo. The boys took off full throttle leaving me to hold on for dear life to just keep up. I stopped about halfway up the mountain, knowing that if I went any further, I just might have to push my quad back down (I was a little scared). It was so cool to see wild mustangs by the dozen just roaming around.

We were able to relax, talk, eat (some yummy, yummy BBQ--thanks Randy), quad, take walks, and visit Virginia City. Virginia City is about 20 minutes away by car, and about 1 hour (or 2 if you get lost) by quad. Jamie and Randy rode the quads on the way their, and Grant accompanied them on the way home. And believe it or not, he fell asleep for about 30 minutes of the ride!! While in Virgina City we went in a ton of store, ate FRESH doughnuts, took a mine tour, and even caught a LITTLE parade (I do mean LITTLE, only about 8 minutes long)!

Thanks Randy and Leslie for entertaining us for the weekend!!

Photographer In Training

Last week we had some crazy storms. One day it would be sunny, the next was windy and rainy. While I was at the table with Emma doing homework, we looked up and saw a double rainbow. Emma immediately ran to get the camera. This is what she took:
And then when I was downloading my other pictures, I realized she snuck a few more in there too:

Sleeping Beauties--No Words Needed

Turning Over A New Leaf

Dare I say that Emma has gotten over her fear of dogs? Probably not, but we made HUGE strides this weekend. While visiting my brother this weekend, Emma made friends with his dog, Hank. It was rough going at first, but then she really warmed up to him. By the end of the second day she was walking around the house (not hovering on the furniture), and playing fetch with him. At one point I even caught her sitting on the ground next to Hank watching TV, and very gingerly laid her head next to his. My heart almost jumped out of my body!!

Does this mean a new addition for the Cahoon family......probabably not!! But we might be able to go to the park without the paralyzing fear that used to prompt Emma up to the tippy top of the slide whenever she would see a dog.

BABY STEPS!!

No Better Crocker

I admit that I am no Betty Crocker, but I'm giving it my best shot. My neighbor Julie and I have recently been getting into food storage and preparedness stuff. So we decided that one of our first things to learn was how to make wheat bread. So who was my first call to.......MOM!!! My mom makes the best wheat bread.

We all set up our mixers in my kitchen and had a lesson from Mom. And I have to say, it turned out darn good!! Now we'll just have to see if I can do it on my own the next time with as much success.

Other Sites We Visit

I always love looking at the other sites that people have listed on their blogs. I have ran into so many fun, creative, interesting, humorous, and informative sites this way. So I thought I'd share a peek with everyone else too. Take a look at the right side of the page on the bottom. Enjoy!

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Yesterday we took the kids to the mall for an afternoon, of Easter shopping, to ride the carousel, see the Easter bunny, and lunch at Fresh Choice. Sounds great right? And you might think that this post has to do with talking to the Easter Bunny right? WRONG!! Here's the story:

While shoe shopping at JC Penny, Emma is over with Jamie trying to talk him into some easter shoes with a little heel on them (she won by the way), and Grant was in the mall shopping cart, waiting patiently with me for shoes from the back. The GUY brings them over to us and Grant says, "Mom, is that a boy or a girl?" (at this point I am down by his foot removing the tennis shoe, and say quietly to him, "That's a boy") Then he says. "No, he's a girl. Only girls wear earrings!"

Luckily the guy just laughed and said "That was hecka funny!"

**Secretly I was kind of proud of my son.**
